Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the club - are part of the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
